Frequently Asked Questions

How long is your wait list?

We currently have immediate availability! Please contact us for exact start date estimates.

How long will my Sprinter van conversion take?

Once the build process is initiated, our standard layouts take approximately 10-12 weeks to complete.

Why do you only offer three layouts?

Sprinter van conversions are meant to get you to the places you love and keep you comfortable while you’re out there. Fully custom builds can be great, but far too often the process becomes overly time-consuming and complicated and the customer ends up with a van that doesn’t function as well as it should. We’ve done the hard work for you by designing three models of camper van that work flawlessly and look beautiful. The best part? You still get plenty of opportunities to make this van your own.

Will you offer different layouts in the future?

Stay tuned, there’s no lack of creativity in these parts; we expect to have more layouts in the future.

Do you do ADA-compliant conversions?

Yes! We’re currently engineering our first ADA-compliant conversion. Please inquire for more details.

Do you provide the van?

No, we don’t, but we'll go all out to help you find, purchase, and ship your dream van from any dealership in the country. Alternatively, you can bring (or ship it) your van to our shop. Please note that for our standard layouts we only build on 2019+ Mercedes Sprinters with the 170" or 144" wheelbase and high roof. You can download our Mercedes Sprinter van buying guide here, which will walk you through everything you want to look for in your van so your conversion is as cost effective and eco-friendly as possible.

Do you do conversions on 144” wheelbase Sprinter vans?

Yes! The Explorer model is built on the 144" Sprinter van chasis, in a two or four-passenger model. Please inquire for more details.

Do you offer fully custom builds?

We're not offering fully custom builds at the moment. But our Endeavor, Venture and Explorer models are highly customizable.

How much does a standard build cost?

The base price for our three van models - which all come loaded with the full suite of our standard features, (many of which you’d pay extra for with other van builders), like a robust solar power system, premium queen size mattress, convertible second bed, expansive garage, and kitchen - is around $125k. And you can rest assured that it will be one of the most eco-friendly and health-conscious vans available. Note that this price doesn't include the van itself, which you already own or we can help you source and purchase. Multiple financing options are available for the conversion and van purchase. Questions? We're standing by to help. Contact us to discuss your vision and receive a free estimate.

How much does a fully custom build cost?

We're not doing fully custom designs at the moment. But all of our models have tons of options that can be added to customize your van. Whether you're looking for rugged overlander styling, sweet boho appeal, or something else altogether, we've got you covered! Contact us to discuss your vision and receive a free estimate.

Do you offer financing?

Yes! We have financing partners and are happy to put you in touch. Please contact us at info@museoutdoors.com.

Additionally, certain Mercedes Benz dealers will be able to facilitate your relationship with Mercedes Benz Financial Services to finance not only the cost of your new van, but also 50% of the cost of the conversion, allowing you to finance 75% of the total cost. To do that, the dealership will need our build invoice. So before you start shopping for your van, we suggest contacting us to finalize your design details so we can prepare your invoice.

Other options to consider are a credit union loan, home equity line of credit, forming a partnership with 2 or more parties to purchase the van together, and generating income from the van by renting it out airbnb-style on outdoorsy.com.

And be sure to check out our blog for an article on other creative ways to finance and afford the van of your dreams.

Do you have a warranty?

Of course. Our builds are backed by a 36,000 mile/3-year warranty on the build-out itself. This covers all the build materials and any parts or components fabricated by us. Third-party components such as the included Dometic fridge/freezer have separate warranties through the manufacturer.

Can I see your vans in person?

Yes! We’d love to meet you and show you our vans in person at our shop in Alameda, CA. Please reach out and we’ll set up a visit.

Can I come to the shop and see my build in progress?

Of course you can! Nothing makes us happier than seeing the smile on your face when you stop by to meet the team at our Sprinter van conversion shop in Alameda, CA and see your dream come to life.

What’s your production process?

A 50% deposit will reserve your spot in our production schedule. We can help you find and purchase your van from a dealer and arrange for delivery to our shop, unless you already own a van. A progress payment of 25% is due during the build cycle, and a final 25% payment is due upon delivery. Our build process takes approximately 10-12 weeks. On delivery day, we will take you on a detailed walkthrough to ensure that you are well-acquainted with your new van. Finally, we hand over the keys and you start exploring!
